We cruised from Moscow to St. Petersburg, stopping in a lot interesting places along the Volga and other waterways.

Речной вокзал, the Moscow North River Terminal, was our departure point. |
The terminal is on the Volga Moscow Canal, and was built 1933 - 1937. The Russian spelling for Volga, as seen on the terminal, is ВОЛГА. |

The "Motor Ship Rossia" was built in the former East Germany for use on the Volga, and is owned by Grand Circle Travel. |

Kalyazin was across the Volga from Makaryevsky monastery, which was flooded in 1940 from construction of Uglich Reservoir. This is St. Nicholas belltower, all that is left of the monastery. |

Church of Dmitry on the Blood and the Transfiguration Cathedral |
Church of Dmitry on the Blood. When Ivan the Terrible died in 1584, his youngest son Dmitry Ivanovich was exiled to Uglich, where he was killed May 15, 1591, in the palace yard. The church was built where he died. |

Demidovsky Pillar (1829) in Ilyinsky Square memorializes Pavel Grigoryevich Demidov. The pillar was taken down during USSR times and restored in 2005 by the city. |
Demidov founded the Yaroslavl Demidov School of higher Sciences. |
